Arthur was not only a businessman, but a man of faith, family, and fun
Early Life
Arthur Jerome Queen was born on April 17, 1942, in Brentwood, Maryland, to Stanley and Marion Queen. He was the youngest of five siblings (Ann, Berniece, Sterling “Jake,” and Barbara). Arthur was given the nickname “Budlou” as a young kid. He graduated from Fairmont Heights High School in 1960 as an all-star athlete. He was the starting quarterback for the football team and the starting point guard for the basketball team. (He was later inducted into the Fairmont Heights Athletic Hall of Fame in August 2023.) He attended Prince George’s Community College and Delaware State University. He also earned a Glass Management Certificate from Georgetown University. Arthur worked for General Glass Company for over 20 years, rising from Branch Manager to District Manager. This experience planted the seed for him to start his own glass and mirror business in 1986.
Family
Arthur was first married to Mabel Luckett, and they had 5 children (Tyrone, Sherraine, Belinda, Monica, and Jerome). On March 10, 1974, Arthur went on his first date with Sandra, and they both immediately knew that they were destined to be each other’s “Always”. They married on July 12, 1980, and remained inseparable for 49 years.
Arthur and Sandra relocated with their children, Robert and Kelsi, from Washington, D.C., to Atlanta in 1985. Georgia became his home, and on the Eastside of Atlanta, his family grew. He left behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and an adopted church family. He was affectionately known as “Deedock” among many of his grandchildren.
Faith AND COMMUNITY
Arthur was a devout man of faith who attended Love Life Christian Fellowship Church, where his sister-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Grace C. Washington, is the Pastor. Baptized in 2003, he dedicated himself to service, actively participating on the Board of Directors, Board of Deacons, Property Development Ministry, and singing in the Johnny Robinson Male Chorus. Arthur believed in investing in the church to uplift his community. He remains a key figure at Love Life and in the DeKalb County community. Posthumously, he was awarded the Love Life Legacy Servant Award in 2025. Known for his quick-witted jokes and one-liners, he always brought joy to those around him.
Recreation AND HOBBIES
Arthur was an avid golfer and bowler, with 7 perfect games (300). He was an Atlanta Falcons season ticket holder for more than 30 years. It brought him great joy to take people to their first Falcons game and buy them a jersey to commemorate their first experience. Arthur always loved returning home to be greeted at the door by his fur babies, Arby, Smokey, and Nala. He was known for gathering his family and friends for crab legs, crab cakes, and other seafood.
